1998 and MAU was fast moving. Infact, it was so fast, that no one had time to think. Anyway, during those times we all had the radio on and this is the tune we used to sing to. This of course was always dedicated to Trust management who did no work apart from boss everyone around. Dolly Parton does a great song for oncall times. Dr Banforth was an unhappy fast working doctor. I was his junior and he knew how to belt out a song - even while oncall. As all the girls used to say, the good thing about Dr Banforth was that he had a good anatomically structured backside. [ He actually did - not that I would ever admit to any observational studies at all]

Oncall in MAU
One important aspect of North Staffordshire NHS Trust is the fact that all junior doctors usually turn out to be more competent than the average SHOs elsewhere in England. The reason for this was the high level intensity of work, the fact that everyone was thrown in the deep end and the the long hours of work. Apart from the tottering bed manager who was the most annoying of creatures, all was well during oncall times.
