" There's a whole world of people out there, and boy, are they pissed off" and he goes on to say "And though there are any number of bloggers and commenters who attempt to keep their postings and responses on a civil level, all too often interactive Web sites descend into ad hominem attacks, insults and plain old name-calling. Indeed, there are even whole sites devoted to venting, such as justrage.com (one screed there was titled, "I don't give a flying f***, so f*** you") and mybiggestcomplaint.com"Cyberpsychology points us to the disinhibition of human behaviour that is exhibited on the internet. The free speech afforded by the internet is certainly a threat to the current government in the UK. A government who hides patient deaths by the use of spin. We have to state it as simply as that because the rest of the world is of the view the UK is a democratic country. It has no idea about the severe oppression of free speech that goes on. The control of the media by the current government is well known.
The Independent had an interesting article that was sent to me today. Hazel Blears is not happy about bloggers. My God, the red hair dye must be everywhere. This Squirrel " Lets collect the blogging nuts and throw them in the Tower of London" look must be taking over the world. Every person associated with the Labour Party gets their Loreal out and dyes their hair. It summarises the Labour Party - everything is cosmetic and nothing is real. Perhaps there is a communical " red hair dye day" at the Ladies in Parliament. Perhaps that is what Blears does between parliamentary sessions.
Good grief, Hazel must be old enough to have some grey hairs floating around - after all we can see all her wrinkles. Perhaps she is trying to tell us she still looks 20. Or perhaps she is trying to tell us that she is now copying the style of a Cabbage Patch Doll.
Anyway, I often wonder whether she can actually type or perhaps she gets her secretary - paid by us to do it for her. We know her blog only had visits from her and died a death. Anyway, if you move to her biography, you find out that the reason she has her claws out for Guido. Blears is a straight lined thinker, someone who doesn't like her world being challenged or turned upside down. She also likes control. We can see that from her power dressing escapades. Guido walks in out of nowhere and challenges the status quo. Blears looks down on him but the public have more respect for Guido than they do the Labour Party. That tells us something. Guido is doing something right, Labour is doing it wrong. Internet control was described by Deb Acle sometime ago.
Of course, the fact remains that not even defamation law can control the internet.
Hazel still has has her solicitor fangs intact. She is intelligent enough to understand that the internet is now out of control and cannot be regulated by anyone. Amazing that an officer of the court seeks to propagate the idea that free speech is a bad thing. Of course, as an officersof the court, Blears really should not be seeking to do that. Anyway, who cares about the Law Society these days, their conduct rules are often thrown out by solicitors anyway -unread.
Here is what the Independent stated
"Political blogs are written by people with disdain for the political system and politicians, who see their function as unearthing scandals, conspiracies and perceived hypocrisy," she said. Conservative grandee Lord Baker has described the comments as "extraordinary". He said: "She needs to tune into the modern world. People have a right to say what they think and if she doesn't like it she can blog back". However, Blears maintains that: "Until political blogging adds value to our political culture, by allowing new voices, ideas and legitimate protest and challenge, and until the mainstream media reports politics in a calmer, more responsible manner, it will continue to fuel a culture of cynicism and despair."
Of course, all Blears is doing here is increasing the popularity of Guido Fawkes and Iain Dale whose traffic would have increased exponentially by now.
The more interesting piece was presented by the Register. Even the Guardian who prefers a rather " polite construction of sentences" had something to say.
Blears also stated
"But she added: "Unless and until political blogging 'adds value' to our political culture, by allowing new and disparate voices, ideas and legitimate protest and challenge, and until the mainstream media reports politics in a calmer, more responsible manner, it will continue to fuel a culture of cynicism and pessimism."
Clearly, Guy Fawkes of the modern world is aiming to undermine parliament with the power of his words. He is also getting right up Hazel's rather large nose. So he should.
To other rantings - I watched a recording of Prime Minister's Question Time late last night. There they all were, the UK's leaders - gruffing and misbehaving. The UK's Parliament is an embarrassment to citizens of the UK. I know India and Pakistan both laugh at us. Heaven only knows what the US really thinks. Parliament on a good day looks as like a public school common room with unruly boys. Then we have Fat Boy Not Slim Gorbals Mick trying to exert some order. Of course, no one listens to him because he is so conflicted out that he makes Lord Hiss look innocent. For my readers in the US, Lord Hiss is someone who made it to the Cabinet through the backdoor. The government forced the Queen to make him a "Lord" so that they could introduce him into the Cabinet without an democratic election.
No one was worth voting for. We compare this to the politicians in the US. I shook my head and sighed. No wonder no one votes in this country. They all think Parliament consists of a number of out of touch corrupt idiots. OK, that's what I think but I have good reason for it, I have the Department of Health "Spin the Ward 87 story" documents in the year 2000. I know exactly what the government did to shut the issue down. I suspect it was time to "Bury bad news". Government officials regularly prowl our websites. As if, Whitehall has nothing better to do. The problem for them is that Google listens to no one - not even them so in a way I am quite pleased that Google with blogger has made free speech possible. If we were still pandering around with Bill Gates, none of this would be possible.
Cameron made a faux pas when he compared himself to Barack Obama. I nearly choked on my cornflakes out after hearing that speech. Cameron - the man from Eaton who thinks that its the"people's fault that they are poor" and who is completely out of touch with the real world just like his colleague Andrew Mitchell MP. He may get the sympathy vote as none of us like Gordon Brown Trousers either. It is time the Conservative Party gave us back William Hague so we can all get back to voting again. If the Conservatives had not back stabbed him in the first place, we would have some decent leadership not some Eatonian who thinks he should be respected by default.
Anyway, Hazel ought to understand that nothing is going to control the internet or bloggers because we are all hear to stay. I know I ain't moving. Someone has to hold this Stalinist state accountable - and it will be the bloggers who do it.
I believe politicians forget that they are paid for by the tax payer, servants of the tax payer and should not tell their paymasters and bosses what to do. That means Hazel Blears should get on with her job with the government instead of attempting to suppress the rights of others. Position, power and public funds clearly get to their heads. If the current government spent more time governing the country than they do operating their media spinning machine, we might not be at the brink of recession, we might not have the highest unemployment rate and we might not have a country at the point of collapse. Even the Queen had something to say - subtly putting the boot in recently, she questioned why no one noticed that the credit crunch was looming. And that is a very good question. We want to know the answer to this as well. Anyhow, we all know what the Prince Charles' view of the recent government is. Perhaps Prince Charles should blog away about his dislike for the current government. I suspect Hazel Blears would have something to say about that.
Guido Fawkes isn't the problem - the current government is. The government's obsession with media spin and subsequent brain washing will be their own downfall.
