#WELOVETHENHS. Really?!

When was the last time we heard a whistleblower say that they loved the NHS?!

Lets see, you raise a issue about poor care on Ward. You then spent the next 10 years being ostracised for it because the vast majority of the establishment walk around protecting the system. Of course, never acknowledging its flaws and doing what the British always do - concealing their errors is a recipe for disaster. That is why the NHS has one of the highest death rates in Europe. Of course, no one really cares about this aspect of the issue but it is the acid test measurement of how good a health system is. If a common end result is death then it is clear the system is not working.

If I was unpatriotic in raising justifiable concerns on a Ward that was subsequently shut down then so be it. If I am unpatriotic now in raising the issues that fail many people on a day to day basis then so be it. At least the US treats their whistleblowers with respect. It is more than the United Kingdom does. The British consider their whistleblowers to be a threat to the establishment. The NHS does not give whistleblowers a reason to love or respect it. Love isn't automatic, it is gained by treating whistleblowers well. As this specific whistleblower has not been treated well, I would say I don't particularly love the institution. I also dislike the manner in which it abuses patients rights on a regular basis.

I would rather be unpatriotic than remain silent about the truth behind the National Health Service. The fact remains, the NHS is failing, those who conceal it and who protect it are making the problem worse. This is costing lives. If the UK felt so strongly about their health system, they would stop abusing it, they would fight to improve the quality of care and they would increase transparency and honesty in the NHS.

Now it takes the US to remind the British that they should have protected their health system so they do not become the butt of every Republican joke. Bit late now isn't it. The damage appears to be done and now every American will understand a well concealed issue - the NHS is failing.
