It has been a long road for David. He has never given up and I think that is one of the most admirable things to observe in this case. David is a good friend of mine. I have always supported his case and I am pleased that Mary O Rourke finally managed to wolf down the optimum amount of Belgian chocolates to achieve success. I have always said that Mary performs her best on the David Southall's cases. This is essentially due to the fact that David's sex appeal [even at of 60 plus] tends to push Mary into serotonin overload. Hell, we all asked her how she concentrated on her papers with David sitting next to her. Rumours were rife that she often had repeated hot flushes. Mary blamed her low MDU paypacket for that.
Mary was found in a anxious state in the women's powder room at the RCJ trying desperately to keep her hormones in check. Revlon lipstick wasn't helping, neither was Ponds cream. She told everyone that a paper bag over David's head would never help anymore - it was too late. She lamented that the MDU had not cared about these adverse side effects and had not carried out the Health and Safety risk assessment. In response, the MDU insisted sexy clients were rare. Some years ago, the MDU had persuaded her to represent at the GMC. The catch was that Martin Forde QC and David Southall were sitting at opposite sides of her. She won against all odds there too. O Rourke insists that she has never developed a unidirectional squint towards David or Martin. We don't believe her for one minute.
David is of a age where he understands these problems women face. Afterall. legions of women had fainted in the corridors of City Hospital Stoke on Trent. Like a true gentleman, he was only too pleased to offer Mary some assistance. He essentially pottered down to the local choc shop, purchased large amounts of Thorntons chocolates [ as advised by me]. This was the key to combating Mary's hormone spikes. David knows all about biochemistry - that is because he is a swotty supergeek. On medical advice, Mary was last seen wolfing down David's chocolates before the hearing. This is why she ended up beating the GMC's sad excuse for a wig. Blackstones had offered up Monica Carss-Whisk Q.C. It was simple, Mary wore her wonderbra and the bint from Blackstone's couldn't find hers. Ms Whisk just didn't know how to accessorize. Moreover, the GMC had banned chocolate. Apparently, chocolate and Ms Whisk did not mix.
During the public fight on David Southall's case, I was one of the casualties. There have been many casualties before and after me. The complainant against him, complained about me. It ended my medical career and with that we all realized that doctors had no civil rights in this country. Of course, I didn't have as much luck as David. My barrister refused chocolate and promptly lost as predicted. Of course, the outcome of my own case R v General Medical Council Ex Parte Pal showed that
1. No doctor was safe
2. Child protection professionals were at greater risk than ever.
3. That no one was particularly listening.
Of course, David's appeal will never stop complaints from tracking through the system. R v GMC Ex Parte Pal makes it painfully easy for any nutcase to bring down a doctor. I doubt that the child protection professionals have any concept of the failings in law ie lack of directive for the Registrar when assessing complaints, lack of directive for the analysis of misconduct etc. It is actually free season for complainants and there is very little anyone can do about this.
This appeal result is a half way win - it is the kind of thing the judiciary engages in. No doubt, David will be back for round 2 in this battle of the titans to get his name totally cleared.
The Angel of Scientology is slowly having her wings clipped - online, off line and through the courts. Soon there will be a change of government and this Labour's Angel of Scientology residing in Wolverhampton will understand some important issues.
This short post is to say - that through the difficult times, the most important aspect is David's strength of character and determination to prove his innocence. I have not agreed with David on many aspects, but through our arguments, we have agreed to differ in many instances.
I like David - that was never a secret. Our paths run parallel and have always done from the days of Rod Griffiths to the same court rooms. I taught David all about chocolate :). Some things are essential in any battle.
Well done King David.
Conflict of Interest. David has sent me chocolate in the past. It had no impact on my hormones.
