Ben Goldacre's Crackpot Farm. The Bad Science Forums.

Forum Frenzy.

I have warned Ben Goldacre once regarding the crazy psychology of his internet forums. There are those in some kind of frenzied state who are egged on by each other to subsequently make complaints to the General Medical Council about doctors. Some doctors are good and some are bad. Ben's negligence in dealing with a case some months ago resulted in the poor doctor being subjected to a harrowing time courtesy of the GMC. That too following the doctor's mothers death. Thanks Ben. You are so caring of your colleagues. Thankfully, the GMC dropped all charges after we mounted a rapid onslaught against the stupidity created on Ben's forums. Ben's forums are filled with pseudo intellectuals who feel they know it all.

I decided at the time, that I needed to raise the awareness of the onset of some disturbing internet psychology appearing on Bad Science. The last time, I spotted this kind of frenzied state was msbp.com. As many people know, I effected the take down on msbp.com . I then wrote about it here. Following this exposure, I was subjected to a GMC complaint that resulted in a court case - now being used against every doctor in the UK. So we can understand the results of crackpot behaviour.

The cyberpsychology of Bad Science's forums is becoming unhealthy. Ben though is too busy being famous to take note of this. Sarah Myhill's latest "anonymous" complainant assumes he is safe from being identified. The Bad Science discussion is listed here.

This is what the poster wrote.

"I actually find this quite funny as my initial contact with the GMC was just a speculative email to the general enquiries email asking whether it would actually be worth submitting another complaint given the failure of the previous 6 efforts. This was written with some haste during a coffee break and hence contained a few typo’s. Amusingly, after submitting my full complaint the GMC decided to use this email to front the complaint to Myhill *sigh*."

Well, Dr Anonymous , there is no anonymity on the internet. Some of us know the case law on how to extract your IP address and identity [as we have done it hundreds of times]. After we have done that, and if you are a doctor, we will reverse the complaint onto you. If not, there is always his workplace disciplinary procedure. It is of course easily done. I wonder if Dr Anonymous has heard of Motley Fool. Does Norwich Pharmacal ring any bells in that empty head of Dr Anonymous? Actually, perhaps we should call the gloating fool Jonas. Perhaps the big girls blouse will fight like a real man and stop "hiding behind the skirts of the GMC". Of course, identification is really easy really, we get the IP, we get the internet company and we get the address. It is about a 48 hour job if I put my mind to it. Besides, there is always the NightJack case to support Sarah. So Jonas, come out and play with the big girls for a change. Lets see who wins this game of hide and seek.

Anyhow, the disclosure will happen and it may happen soon. I outed the moderator of msbp.com. There will be no problems in outing Dr /Mr Anonymous. After that, we will do what was done to Dr Tim Woodman. The matter was faxed to all local papers, to every PCT and posted on the internet. In the end, Timbo became depressed. I can't help it if some doctors make vexatious complaints then can't sustain it.

Secondly, it is my view that all those who mock the innocent doctors facing the GMC should try it out themselves. I am open to provide advice to anyone wishing to make complaints about Ben Goldacre. Just to remind Ben - I don't like him messing with my friends . I also don't like the manner in which Bad Science is propagating into sea of vexatious complainants. Sarah is a friend. If this issue propagates courtesy of the crackpots on the Bad Science blog, it is likely to be given at a double dose back to the complainant.

So far two of my friends have gone down due to the Bad Science Forums. Either Ben controls it or he doesn't. The choice is his. I though am highly pissed off - and not a lot of people like it when I lose my patience.

Is 'Jason' a stooge?

(He boasts on the Bad Science forum that he is the complainant to the GMC about Dr Myhill.)

In addition to his penchant for basements, the following information can or could be found about him on his posts on the Bad Science forum:

1) He was temporarily in Australia (and posting on BS during the UK night-time, but after a couple of day's absence from the site is now posting in the UK daytime.)

2) His name is Stuart ('Stu')

3) Stuart is 28

4) Stuart is a junior health worker in a NHS hospital laboratory

5) Stuart is very knowledgeable about tests available at Kings College, London hospital

6) Stuart states that Dr Myhill's website was first brought to his attention by his colleagues.

Is Stuart his senior colleagues' stooge?

the above should read 'is Jonas' a stooge, not 'is Jason a stooge'.

all above information about him is taken from his old posts on the Bad Science forum

who's pulling his strings?

Having started a 200+ page vitriolic hate thread against Dr Myhill on the Bad Science forum by bragging of his complaint to the GMC about her, 'Jonas' is now whining there that his anonymity has been compromised.

The information about himself was provided by 'Jonas', for all to see, in his posts on the forum. He is now blaming the GMC, Dr Myhill, the KGB, little green men from Mars - anyone except the person living in the glass house who provided this information - himself.

(he has now done a U-turn & is declaring that his complaint was made independently of any colleagues - yeah right)
