Something Fishy

Fresh from the cyberseas of causing mayhem, Dr Neil Bacon can be seen commenting to the BBC.

He says "But he says some doctors are so angry about the site they're trying to sabotage it by putting up fake reviews."They've tried adding spoof reviews about some of the famous doctors in the country saying 'We don't like this person, they're not very good'. It's clearly rubbish."

Well, Neil if your website was rock solid, these Spartacus lookalikes would not be able to write spoof comments. This shows the fundamental flaw of a badly designed website. Neil has no doubt started to fish for these rather interesting guppies. It is no use whining to the Beeb about your design fault Neil. Neil though finds it difficult to face that he is all talk and not much in the way of analytical brain power.

I really can't be bothered wasting my time with writing spoof comments on his website. I haven't even written comments about the doctors I know to be dubious. There are probably a lot of fishy underhanded plans of attack against Neil Bacon but I think these should be deserted and left at the bottom of the sea. The best plan of mice and men is to write about him online and report him to the Information Commissioner. Neil though is aware that doctors hold vendettas and while I certainly consider him a bumbling fool to be parodied net wide, other doctors may have worse plans for the downfall of iwantgreatcare.org.

As Neil's Nemesis, I would say he provides me with mass hours of entertainment. His stupidity never ceases to amaze me. That said, I don't believe Neil Bacon should be harassed, threatened or abused. In any case, I forgave Neil Bacon for his utter stupidity many years ago. People cannot help their shortsightedness nor can they help their inability to see logic. He will though think he should not be forgiven but as a flawed and weak man who succumbs to temptation, there is nothing more an opponent can do but to forgive.

I simply hope he does see the error of his ways one day.

Andrew Mitchell MP - Great Big Spender

Photographed with VIPs - The Fat Cats

Mr Mitchell is my MP. He is among the front bench of the Conservatives. They recently published details of their expenses claims, as part of a drive to increase transparency about parliamentary allowances.

Mr Mitchell's profile has improved somewhat. He took over from Norman Fowler who I met some years ago. You get to meet MPs when you win prizes at school. It is one of those perks as a teenager. I thought Fowler was a rather upper crust man and didn't think much of him as a teenager. When I grew up, nothing changed my view. Andrew Mitchell MP though is supposedly a young dynamic man. Andrew Mitchell has now stopped having his picture taken repeatedly with the blue rinse brigade and actually tends to try and do something constructive for the community. Perhaps he has evolved from his inheritance from Norman Fowler MP. Mr Mitchell and I have never seen eye to eye. I have repeatedly attempted to give him the benefit of the doubt but I don't think it is working. You see Mr Mitchell feels that the deaths in North Staffordshire NHS Trust are unimportant because it was such a long time ago. I recently asked him to assist with a referral to the Health Select Committee on the broader issue of treatment of whistleblowers. In true form, he has not responded. I believe the ideas I send him are probably too advanced, or perhaps so much so that he hasn't got time to apply his mind.

He sent me a letter recently telling me that when MPs act for their constituents, they do not always achieve the outcome that is expected. I responded and told him that it would assist everyone if he tried to do something about the issue in the first place - whether or not it achieved the desired outcome. The important thing is to at least try. Mr Mitchell has not responded since then. I do firmly believe that Ward 87 and its important issues have been neglected because I have an MP that is asleep on this case. Trying to even get him to read documentation is more difficult than getting blood out of a stone. This lack of attention to detail of issues that are not particular popular in the public domain makes Mr Mitchell a little careless at times. He is not unintelligent, he is simply of the view that he doesn't understand the issues I have raised, will probably never understand them so why should he care about them. Afterall, the dead people were not his relatives. I have recently explained to him that after about 8 years of waiting for him to do something, he should ask an MP to take over the important issues of whistleblowing.

It therefore amused me somewhat when the local paper stated " He also spent £1762 on " media intelligence" service to monitor the media and find news stories of interest to MPs. Wow, I thought, the rest of the world uses a little known service called Google Alerts. This is a free service.

Mr Mitchell's correspondence is always extremely amusing :-

1. He refuses to communicate by email thereby showing his lack of concern for the environment
2. He responds by expensive conqueror paper thereby cluttering up the place. This is expensive paper and shows that Mitchell pays little attention to recycling or conservation. "Birmingham now has the most comprehensive recycling programme ever seen and after being recognised as the “Cleanest City” in the UK, we will further invest in our Cleaner, Greener and Safer agenda" Said the local conservatives" West Midlands Conservatives.
3. He signs his letters in fountain pen when biro would do just fine. The signature takes up more space than the actual contents of the letter. Perhaps he likes the sound of his own name, I have no idea.

It is clear, Mr Mitchell hates representing me. He cannot get over the whistleblower image. Ian Perkin tells me that most people find it hard to get over this image. The image of being " difficult". The point about whistleblowers becoming difficult because no one lifts a finger to assist them, often escapes many people. That is probably why they often become self sufficient. Mitchell sneered at my case with the GMC and he has always found the victories irrelevant.

I believe he would prefer that I moved to a different constituency but I shall sit here and wait to see how longer our man who is paid by the tax payer takes to do anything effective in the vital issue of whistle blowing and patient safety. The only plus point about this MP is that he isn't bad looking for a man who is greying. I believe that is about his strongest asset for the camera pose he craves for. I certainly know the over 50s brigade find him deliciously charming.

Andrew is of course doing more important things like saving people abroad while people in his own NHS are dying. I believe David Southall and Andrew have a lot in common. Both looking over the UK lines to assist the masses abroad while their own people are plummeting into recession, poverty and death.

I have two more MPs to talk about on their role in whistleblowing, one is Paul Marsden MP and the other is Mark Fisher MP. One wanted to have an affair in exchange for representation and the other lied about a referral to the Health Commission. He then told the parliamentary watchdog that he had " lost and deleted all documentation". Those tales for another day. I believe it is important that MPs provide a good service given they are paid by the tax payer.

The Journey's End

NHS Exposed [that website that everyone talks about but no one writes about] exists in cyberspace. Unlike other publications, it is a working website. By this, I mean, it functions to assist those who have no where else to turn to. Over the years, it has assisted doctors, patients and other people from all walks of life. Last year, Lisa Blakemore Brown, a famous psychologist came to us for help. After that, we assisted PACA and David Southall. Lisa Blakemore Brown's fortune turned and she was cleared. David Southall has been cleared so far. All groups have been cleared after many years. Of course, what we do behind the scenes is top secret but nevertheless it is effective. Out of all these people who we have helped and who have gone onto success, few have the courage to publicly thank us. In fact, one of the traits of people we do assist, is that they disappear into their lives and we never see them again.

Through the above and in supporting Lisa Blakemore Brown, I lost my job, I was subjected to a GMC investigation and have court challenges due. During that time, I effected the take down of msbp.com - a website which initially commenced with good intentions but in the end became a rogue website where doctors were placed at risk. Mothers were being recruited to Scientology and the police took no action. For about 10 years no defence union had managed challenge to it. Julie Patrick though, a wonderful lady listened to reason and removed the forum section of the website. My only regret here was that I never actually got to speak to Julie to thank her personally for her kindness.

During this time of strife, and devastation to all concerned, the only light in the darkness was Christina England. Christina has been an ardent supporter of Lisa Blakemore Brown. She has though been a rock of strength to me. All the above was possible for us only with her support on a day to day basis. I always find that times of strife and trouble show us who the genuine people are in our lives. The kindness drops unexpectedly. In the hours and days of work we had done for PACA and David Southall, the only return we received was coldness and judgments. Christina England though was different. Out of everyone, she was the only drop of kindness in this traumatic journey.

In the end, both Blakemore Brown and David Southall were divas, a sort of expectation that their entourage will assist them without question. David told me recently that he would acknowledge me publicly when the time is right. This amused me somewhat. We only hear that from people in the media spin. We could all be dead tomorrow and no one could care what happened yesterday. I told David that the boat had passed a long time ago. As I explained, his entourage walked passed me in 1998 when I was a junior doctor. They pushed me to one side and dropped all my blood forms without a care in the world. The behaviour hasn't changed. Not really. People are strange creatures aren't they. They never cease to amaze me. I suspect one of the problems with being a victim is that they become self centred and tunnel visioned. Only those who have walked passed the victim stage can redevelop themselves as genuine human beings.

Out of this entire episode, it was only Christina England who turned out to be the real person. The person with the heart and the person with the mind. She wasn't a professor, she wasn't a psychologist but despite her troubles, she has always thought of others and that is what makes her the most special lady out of them all. The irony out of all this was that despite hours, days, huge levels of paperwork to assist the above, it was only Christina England who turned back to check whether I had fallen or not.

I was ploughing through my huge level of post and found a book today. Christina England had finally got published. During the devastation above, she had written a beautiful story about her life and the US Project accepted it for publication. It was of course entirely my fault for coaxing her to write it but amongst all the dry material I have read in the world, be it research papers or books, Christina England's writing was a beautiful example of the material produced by a real person. There are times, even I lose faith in mankind. Christina England though makes a difference in restoring faith in people. That is the power in the material she writes. I don't normally publish compliments or the cards received. I have them in a shell chest in my room. It would be slightly pretentious to parade them all around. I felt though the above inscription on the book containing Christina's story was poignant and meant a great deal. I also think this was the perfect end to a year long journey to free those who were wrongly caught in an unjust system. In the end, it was Christina England who was the only one worth fighting for but we had never fought for her. She had fought for us.

Music

Ella at Ronnie Scotts. Georgia Brown

I was sent an email some time ago asking me to write my ideas on whistleblower rehabilitation or coping strategies. Today, I have been playing the piano again so I thought I would jot down a quick note about the role of music. Adrian Garfoot and I were discussing how much he loved music and how it helped him cope with the General Medical Council. Adrian plays for the medical orchestra in London.

I adore music, it rocks my boat and anything else around me. I listen to all sorts of music from Guns and Roses to Duffy. I suppose my obsession with music goes back to my past as a Clarinetist. I also managed to scrape and A for GCSE Music. We were too poor for piano lessons to I taught myself and then composed my GCSE module requirements on there. I also played in various big bands for a while until I ended up in London as a medical student. I returned back to music properly in 1998 when I was so miserable that it hurt. For months, I took refuge in my piano which I played for nights on end probably driving my neighbours round the bend. Music has always been good for the psyche or the brain. Times have changed with respect to music - these days, I never leave home without my IPOD. Yes, I am married to it.

Listening to music can reduce chronic pain by up to 21 per cent and depression by up to 25 per cent, according to a paper in the latest UK-based Journal of Advanced Nursing.

From my own experience, I find music heals my mind whenever anything affects me. I often take long drives for lengthy periods and play any sort of music. My particular favourite is Ella Fitzgerald. Music is a huge part of my life and I would recommend it to anyone. In deed, while working in psychiatry, most of my patients took to listening to music. Over the years, I have had the honour of knowing David Helfgott briefly. David was featured in the film Shine. David's PA, Caroline is a good friend of mine who lives in Australia. This is David's personal website. Yes, I do listen to David's CDs. His piano playing is amazing.

So what should I say to any whistleblowers or any doctors/patients who have fallen on tough times. It doesn't cost much to listen to music in the internet age. I would suggest music is always played, it makes the brain think in amazing ways. I often play Beethoven when I am writing GMC related papers :). Actually, may be I play Britney Spears - Hit Me Baby One More Time! For me, I find music makes me think clearly and helps me to put whatever is bothering me to one side. CD Wow is probably the cheapest source of CDs

Taking up an instrument is probably recommended. Focuses the mind on multitasking :). In addition, going to gigs is always great. Sushant Varma who is a friend of mine is always found at some Girls Aloud gig - probably studying Anatomy :). Varma tells me Orange do some good deals.

Overall, I think during times of strife and crap thrown at you by the NHS, we all forget that - actually there is a life out there - a normal one :). Discovering it makes coping with the NHS much easier. Trust me on this! Music is also the cheapest way of having a good time!

Qu'ils mangent de la brioche.

Fiona Bacon is Busy

During the great days of tyranny, iwantgreatcare.org had failed to respond to many queries regarding subject access requests and matters related to Data Protection. Queries had been piling up on the old clapped out Kaypro computers at iwantgreatcare.org. The official reason for their lack of response was that the secretary was busy. Alas, Bacon himself had denied the mass " minority" of 300,000 doctors cakes from Druckers.

The Doctors Have Spoken

I was left a message by a poster called Verdict [ see post on Hail Bacon]. The message stated "The Doctors Have Spoken". This JPEG clearly created by someone who is intelligent, had me rolling on the floor with laughter. I have just picked myself off the floor to post this JPEG. Bacon has a taste for citing copyright violations even when it isn't one so if the above JPEG is removed, you know who did it. Bacon likes to attack websites that don't agree with him. More episodes of Emperor Bacon in Rome is Burning are due in the future. The next one will be entitled " I'm Spartacus" in memory of the fact that hundreds of doctors will own up for one anonymous posting against iwantgreatcare.org. Emperor Bacon who this Saturday continues to eat grapes while his profession burns, will call this a "minority". The comment says " This doctor is a complete penis". Are we sure that we won't require a electron microscope to locate it? Apparently, Micropenis is endemic in the region of Oxfordshire. I can think of at least two men who exaggerate their assets. Perhaps there should be an episode of Rome is Burning called Biggus Diccus [ Minimus]

iwantgreatcare - A Dangerous Website Is Supported by the Negligent BMJ

How things change since her days of UCL and Bertie.

As predicted this week, Fiona Godlee did her friend Neil Bacon a favour. This is not unexpected and I have been predicting it for a while now. Fiona Godlee and Neil Bacon go a long way back. The least she and Brian Keighley could do was free plug for his failing website. It is called solidarity, all peas in a bad pod stick together.

Please note that the BMA has Brian Keighley on its board. He is also a GMC member and a friend of Dr Neil Bacon. This is what the BMJ has to say of its standards

"Editorial decisions should be based mainly on the validity of the work and its importance to readers, not the policies or commercial success of the owner. Editors should be free to publish critical but responsible views about all aspects of medicine without fear of retribution, even if these views might conflict with the goals of the owner. To maintain this position, editors should seek input from a broad array of advisors such as reviewers, editorial staff, an editorial board, and readers."

This is what Fiona Godlee herself said

"We need to make sure that the journal continues to deliver what readers want—high quality information that is accessible and relevant to their lives as doctors and researchers"

So to live up to Godlee's statement, she featured something contrary to mass opinion. Why didn't she feature the dangers of iwantgreatcare.org in the BMJ? Well, it is because she supports and looks out for her friend Neil. So far, we can see that Neil Bacon has been grovelling to his mates in high places. Isn't it convenient that Neil doesn't have to financially invest in advertising. He simply has to use his friends and contacts in high places. Making money out of selling doctors out while telling the world how much he cares for patients. He has never in his entire life said a thing about the protection of patient rights until it was convenient for him. Bacon already has a finding against him at the Information Commissioner, the BMJ continue to feature him as a angelic dot com success.

This is what the BMJ stated

By Michael Cross.

"Medical practitioners have long been public figures. However, the worldwide web is subjecting doctors to a level of popular scrutiny once reserved for politicians and entertainers. From last week, anyone with access to the internet has been able to read anonymous patients’ reviews of individual doctors in the United Kingdom, searchable by name, location, and specialty. iWantGreatCare is part of a healthcare information phenomenon: the compilation and sharing of facts and opinions by patients equipped with new techniques for sharing multimedia data"

Healthcare information phenomenon eh? I had to laugh at the naivety of this man. More like Trojan Horse for the GMC/Department of Health. This is not to mention the allegedly illegal data collection the website is responsible for. Yes, the BMJ has to talk it up of course because as usual it glosses over the important flaws. It glosses over the devastating effects that the website could potentially have on doctors. The BMJ fails to provide any self help for doctors on the wrong end of defamatory postings. To date, the gutless BMA remains silent on this issue.

I suspect its freelance journalist Michael Cross would not feel at all well if a arbitrary written post ended up at the NUJ and he was subject to NUJ proceedings. The post would then be declared to 5 years of his employers and and would probably destroy his references. He would probably be cleared after that due to the falsity of the post - what then?. This though he says is acceptable for doctors. I doubt he will agree that this behaviour is acceptable for him. As a journalist he probably feels that he is higher in the evolutionary scale than mere doctors. The journalism profession are never held accountable no matter what trash they write. A member of the public cannot for instance complain to the NUJ. Can anyone ever rely on any journalist to research their material appropriately or think about what they are writing? Do journalists have any idea of social responsibility? For years, journalists for most papers spent their time spewing the lies on msbp.com. There was no apology for their negligence. Anyway, there will probably be a website called iwantgreatjournalists.org because quite frankly, I am tired with all of them.

Fiona Godlee failed again to declare her conflict of interest and skewed favouritism towards Neil Bacon. She also failed to obtain a 360 degree review of iwantgreatcare.org. The BMA, funded by its members has a journal that does not represent the serious concerns shown by the majority of doctors in the UK. We believe Dr Fiona Godlee should be the first BMJ editor to be placed on iwantgreatcare.org and provided with a cutting review. Of course, she would arrange for her friend Neil Bacon to remove that by a simple phonecall. We shall then see whether non disclosure of this conflict of interest is a GMC offence or not. .

Godlee should have been fired from the BMJ a long long time ago. In fact, she should never have been hired. But given the race relations policy, the golden girl was hired over the more competent and excellent asian male Kaman Abbassi. As usual she is out of touch with the main issue affecting doctors this week. That is probably because her job isn't on the line but everyone else's is. We cannot expect much for a editor who allows a harasser and a ex felon to post on her Rapid Responses while being oblivious to the dangerous networking through it eg contacting experts and recruiting vulnerable women into Scientology. This poster who is a favourite of Tony Delamonthe and Fiona Godlee has links to Scientology. We don't expect the BMJ to understand this at all. That left us to tidy up the mess called msbp.com.

We shouldn't really mention the oxygen of publicity given by the BMJ to the negligent Professor Griffiths who was indirectly responsible for the deaths of many people on Ward 87 by his failure to act. While doctors were suffering from the fiasco governing the MMC, Godlee was fascinated by incompetent researcher Professor Griffiths. While patients were dying on Ward 87, she was probably busy talking about Carbon and Fluoride. These are though examples of the pedigree of people the BMJ features and they call it equality. Ironically, they forget that the BMJ faced Jay Illagaratne at a Race Discrimination Tribunal. Richard Smith won't forget that of course.

On a further note regarding the policy of free advertising. While Fiona Godlee allows her friend Neil Bacon to advertise freely, the BMJ refused a bona fide advert from Remedy UK. The article below by Hospital Doctor shows the antics of the " editorially independent" journal. Clearly, Remedy UK's did not have a personal friend called Dr Fiona Godlee.

"Joint talks in doubt after BMA blocks Remedy UK advert in BMJ. HOSPITAL DOCTOR
2007 Nov 28, Liz Fox

Senior members of the BMA have signalled their hostility to Remedy UK by banning the pressure group from placing an advertisement in the 'editorially independent' BMJ. The refusal means battle lines have now been drawn between the two organisations - and could end joint discussions aimed at improving the working lives of junior doctors. Since the emergence of the grass-roots campaign earlier this year, the BMA has been careful to avoid any hint of rivalry.

In March, a policy statement from the BMA's Junior Doctors Committee (JDC) said it had agreed 'to walk alongside' Remedy representatives at the peaceful march through London's streets protesting against Modernising Medical Careers (MMC). JDC newsletters have also paid tribute to 'very constructive meetings' between committee officers at Remedy.

But Remedy UK - which insists it has been keen to work with the BMA to resolve the MMC crisis - has criticised the BMA for taking a 'protectionist' stance.

Editor's discretion

Remedy approached the BMJ a month ago, asking to place a paid-for advertisement in the publication outlining the organisation's goals and encouraging doctors to become members. It carried no criticism of the BMA.

But, after seeking permission from the BMA, the BMJ Publishing Group refused to run the advert. A BMJ spokeswoman said the journal's advertisement policy allowed it to carry adverts from competitors 'at the editor's discretion'.

The BMA vetoed the advert because it was considered 'inappropriate'.

Mr Mat Shaw, co-founder of Remedy UK, said the decision was 'a real shame'.

He added: 'Now the BMA has taken this protectionist attitude against an innocuous advertisement that we were prepared to pay the market rate for.'

Remedy UK chief executive Dr Chris McCullough expressed concern about the BMA's 'control' over the BMJ. He said: 'It is perceived by the profession as an independent publication, but it is clear that the BMA has significant influence.'

Mr Ram Moorthy, chairman of the BMA's Junior Doctors Committee, insisted the two organisations had a 'positive' relationship. 'At the end of the day, juniors don't want to see the medical organisations bickering,' he said. 'They want us to get on with the job and make their working lives better.'

But Dr McCullough said: 'This signals a clear change in our relationship with the BMA.'

Hail Bacon

Liamicus Donaldsonus adjusts the Emperor's Crown
Christoph Bulstrodius plays the harp

Today, we begin a series called Rome Is Burning.

Emperor Bacon's rule was often associated with tyranny and extravagance. Over time, the Emperor became progressively more powerful, freeing himself of his advisers and eliminating rivals to the throne. Over the course of his reign, he often made rulings that pleased the lower class. Nero was criticised as being obsessed with being popular.

Of late, he decided that he should approach the Black Mental Health minority groups because he knew this political correctness and sudden support for racial equality would bring him fame and clicks on his website. Bacon began his reign 10 days ago by promising the Senate more autonomy. In this first week, he forbade others to refer to him with regard to enactments, for which he was praised by the Senate. In the past, while a doctors only web site burned, the Emperor ate grapes. The revolt against this tyranny continues. Quo Vadis Emperor Bacon. Until next time.....

Bunny Girl

Big Bunny

The above is the largest bunny in the world. He is called Herman. Herman is on MySpace.

I am featuring the large bunny because it reminds me of Dr Ray. I received an email from Dr Ray today and nearly fell off my chair. I get nervous when Dr Ray knocks on Outlook. I think it must be his cybersex appeal. He said as follows

"This has all been very welcome and part of me is pleased that someone has finally recognised my stunning good looks, cutting wit and lofty intellect"

The problem is that I love Dr Ray's writing. I find his sense of humour fabulous and his blog is irresistable. His focal spot fell on me sometime ago and ruffled my bunny ears. Alas he called me a bunny - with the word boiler at the end of it. Since then, my man has been calling me " Big Bunny" and leaving lettuce leaves at dinner. Is this some sort of hint?

Anyway, Dr Ray is due to return back to the cyberwaves on the Trough Trail. He told me
"I have been concerned about IWGC too. Like Donaldson, Bacon and Napoleon it seems the pigs have moved into the farmhouse now and some are more equal than others"
Yes Dr Ray - the war effort needs you. This time when he returns, he needs to revoke my "bunny boiler" status.

Now if everyone will excuse me, I am going to eat my lettuce leaves. Until tomorrow..................

The Reptile Watering Hole

NHS Management

Liz Miller sent me an email yesterday that said

"Will you stop getting yourself banned from everywhere
- for heavens sake can we go anywhere together anymore? ;-) "

I explained to her that I was not banned from places where humans are allowed!

She then said "Just the reptiles' watering holes?"

Well, now that brought back memories from far back into the past.

My favourite Sci Fi series used to be V

Essentially, V was all about lizards disguising themselves as human beings and taking over the earth. In those days, I watched it because Marc Singer starred as Donovan. As always, life for me is always motivated by a sexy guy. As times have moved forward, the rate of sexy men has decreased probably because I have been wallowing in the Reptile Watering Holes hoping they would turn into human beings. NHS Management haven't turned human, not that I have noticed!

In the early, 2000s, I worked in Blackpool, a good hideout for whistleblowers. I ate sugary doughnuts and lovely fish and chips. My Renault Clio got stuck in the tram line one morning when I took the wrong turn while oncall. Yes, having called 999, the fire services turned up at our home in the Midlands NOT the tramline in Blackpool. On that day, I had to play the damsel in distress. Amazing what taking off one's jacket to ensure a low cut top with a wonderbra uplift does to the imagination of men. Andrea from medical school had taught me that trick but I haven't tried it since. 10 came running over and lifted my car out of the tram line. Well, it was an emergency. A girls gorra do what a girls gorra do basically. It was important to flutter the old eyelashes and say " Thankyou, I could never have done that myself" [flutter flutter]. Amazing what a bit of vulnerability does to men. 3 took their shirts off as it was a hot summers day in Blackpool. Of course, I had to simply look. It was simply impossible not to. Thats what happens when you hang around the NHS too long. You forget that men outside the NHS aren't actually lizards at all :) but gentlemen.

Anyway, back to Lizards. I went to work that day and a patient came in to the adult psychiatry clinic and talked about her ideas regarding David Icke. This patient had got rather obsessed with Lizards taking over the world. The tale was fascinating though. She told me that she was sure I wasn't a lizard but that the NHS Managers were indeed of the lizard variety. Ummm, I thought, did this patient have insight? Perhaps she did have insight!? I knew the managers hissed, had forked tongues and generally were mean critters but I had to think about the lizard issue in great depth. This tale amused me greatly. Even though I do not subscribe to David Icke and his Lizard ideas, he is rich and I am not. Perhaps that is because I don't believe in enough in Lizards.

I have often been fascinated by the behaviour of NHS Managers. I suspect my years as a shrink made me acutely aware of how many dysfunctional people existed in the NHS.

I found a Guardian review quite interesting. It stated

"
Board and Fritzon found that three of 11 personality disorders (PDs) were actually commoner in managers than in disturbed criminals. The first was histrionic PD, entailing superficial charm, insincerity, egocentricity and manipulativeness. There was also a higher incidence of narcissism: grandiosity, self-focused lack of empathy for others, exploitativeness and independence. Finally, there was more compulsive PD in the managers, including perfectionism, excessive devotion to work, rigidity, stubbornness and dictatorial tendencies"

And there it was, the study had found what I had suspected for years. Of course, the management at North Staffordshire NHS Trust were quite disordered. The problem with disorder is that those with it, never recognise it.

As the years were to move forward, I discovered that North Staffordshire NHS Trusts were pussy cats in comparison to the psychopaths that existed within GMC Towers. No one knows the GMC, as well as I do [well perhaps J Colman does]. That is because I have studied most documents, read most minutes of meetings and read most cases related to it. The GMC comes in a package deal of variable psychopaths. Its a bit like bassets allsorts but not as cute.

Perhaps this is an organisational problem but there is a serious problem with those who feel "important" about having power over doctors. There is one GMC committee member who Sectioned his own son and drinks like a fish. He sits in judgment of others. Well, there is a reason his wife divorced him. Must have been the brewers droop. Perhaps we can't be that wicked :), or can we?. There is a lot I know about various members of the GMC, their secrets, their dysfunctional lives, their double standards and the fact that they are indeed organisationally psychopathic. In my dealings with them, I have always felt like a fox hunted down and that is exactly what the GMC do - they hunt you down as if you are guilty from the start. Each doctor is considered as Harold Shipman from the start. I must at some point go and email some suggestions to rate the people I have dealt with on http://www.iwantgreatgmcmembers.blogspot.com

So, with respect to reptile comparisons, I was amused by the time I met Paul Philip. Paul Philip is a GMC top executive. He thinks he is important. He is not. He placed an alarm on my file insisting all my enquiries and correspondence to the GMC went via him. Ooooooooo, I thought, checking up on whether I ask for anything that will embarrass the GMC. Philip did not wish to get into the same state of affairs as he did in 2004. Blake Dobson of the GMC apologised for the distress caused to me during their illegal investigation into my so called mental health. It was covert, they admitted it was covert. Sheila Mann admitted it was a discreet inquiry. The GMC, caught with their pants down in court, ran off to the judge and said " Blake's opinion was a personal one and not shared by the GMC". Harris HHJ laughed at them. I laughed at them as did the audience behind us.

I am not actually clear which type of reptiles the GMC fits into - perhaps its an assortment. Perhaps we ought to rename the GMC in Manchester as the Reptile House. I am positive there are variations on a theme of reptiles there. It is true that Paul Philip does not blink. The man has no blink reflex. He was dubbed " snake eyes" by all of us. Paul Philip reminds me of Sir Hiss from the Disney Cartoon Robin Hood. Finlay Scott often reminds me of King John but perhaps that is simply my imagination :). It is important not to take such a dysfunctional organisation seriously. That is because they take themselves so darned seriously. This is probably the reason many doctors don't cope with them or crumble in fear. The main issue to remember though is that the doctors pay their salaries. There is nothing wrong with expecting good service. King John and Sir Hiss are currently not delivering good service. Field Fisher Waterhouse know where their skeletons are hidden.

So in response to Liz, I am banned from a doctors-only forum , from the BMJ but allowed into the Reptile House. Not that I have been to grace the Reptile House because I have never been invited. I recently asked for a meeting with the Reptile House so that we could discuss the removal of the vexatious complaints made by posters to a doctors only web site in the hayday of 2001-2003. Sir Hiss dislikes meeting me. Perhaps it has something to do with my doodling on paper of a large snake with the inscription " Sir Hiss is talking c****" again! :)

BMJ BACKS DOWN

Cats are unpredictable

Yesterday, I wrote a post describing my experiences with the Ungodlee BMJ Careers and its link to Neil Bacon. BMJ Careers was checked quite recently and the Rapid Responses disputed where on there. They now seem to have disappeared! :). Quelle Surprise!

It is a good job, I am good at saving things on hard disk. It is clear that their hapless lawyer Jonathan Crusher who has his own odd associations was given a hard time during pre-action. Put it this way, it always entertains me to see how much the BMJ are willing to pay out to lawyers to defend the stupidity of Neil Bacon. The only good thing about this sorry silly episode is that Jonathan Crusher was actually lovely and tried his level best to defend his stupid clients. It must be such a hard life to be controlled by the drive for money. At £450 plus VAT - and that is just for turning the page, we can only imagine how much the BMA threw in the legal coffers to defend their favourite golden boy Neil Bacon. Defending Neil's stupidity has cost everyone at a lot. His current backers and sponsors for iwantgreatcare.org should consider him as the weakest link. There isn't much point in having blonde hair and a nice smile if it can't be backed up with brain power.

It would be a darned shame if I found the rapid responses in cache. Imagine what that would do to the republication rule! Here is the printed correction, not that this matters anymore. Neil did all the damage he wanted to with his friend Fiona Godlee. I know Richard Smith would have told Neil to F off. But that is what happens when feminists are hired to edit the BMJ as opposed to men with balls of steel. While the doctors are falling apart and morale is low, Fiona concentrates on Carbon. This is the most entertaining dissection of Fiona Godlee's character.

It is true, in my view Fiona would have been better suited to being a lady of leisure. Some women can think, others just think about thinking. We should have a rateyourbmjeditor website so we can actually see all the mistakes Fiona has committed over the years as BMJ editor. Liz Miller has had a good banter about ratemegreat. Those at the BMJ should be rated as well.

Fiona Godlee/Stella Dutton once told me that her [Fiona's] feelings were hurt. Oh dear, I thought to myself, it is clear that only she hurts and the rest of the world doesn't. I suppose creating a uncontrolled and unnecessary litigation mess during my father's funeral didn't hurt. It is though termed " pain" and sympathy when applied to women at the BMJ, but defined as
" irrational behaviour" when applied to my defence. The end of the story in this case was this - I was right, the BMJ was wrong. Apologising to me would be beyond them. Fiona Godlee has not developed those skills yet.

That is of course the problem with Jane Smith and Fiona Godlee - women who think they have insight but in reality should have been locked away by their husbands so they don't create havoc on the publication waves. Perhaps cooking may have been a better occupation because it is clear they are incapable of running a fair and just journal that represents the views of the majority as opposed to a minority of posh upper class snobs. The difference between Godlee, Jane Smith and myself is that I say it as it is publicly and they say it behind closed doors - with Tony Delamonthe, the token housewife supporting all their antics. There is a difference between real men and door mats. Graham Easton. Richard Smith and Kamran Abassi are real men, Tony is not.

Anyway, here is the list of Rapid Responses made by the doctors [see below]. I fully agree with free speech/criticism but I don't agree with sheer stupidity. This is placed online because I was never allowed to respond. Each posting broadly criticised the fact there was no declaration of conflict - that was of course the mistake of the BMJ - as there always was a written declaration of conflict. This combined with the BMA News failure to publish PRHO on the Titanic - written in 1999 and a piece they paid for combined with their stupidity in missing me out as author on the piece I wrote with Bolsin et al just goes to show that the journal is incompetent/malicious or simply both. It is also an interesting example of the dangers of dis inhibited group attacks on the internet spilling out into real life. It is also an example of frenzied, sheeplike behaviour where right and wrong does not matter. A effective defence is always perceived as obsessional litigation but litigation is only a means by which your rights are demanded back. I am aware that stories expand, widen, altered, enhanced, uplifted and the news flies around so far that there are very few who go back to look at the real facts. That is the danger of defamation, that is the danger of iwantgreatcare.org.

The material is placed online as an examination of defamation battles and the sort of thing doctors are likely to face with iwantgreatcare. Stephen O Hanlon the doctor formerly known as Liam Donaldson was rather misbehaved but we can't expect a great deal for Mr Cutestuff. ENT obviously doesn't tax him enough. It cannot be pleasant to spend his days getting up every one's noses. He is though extremely lucky I didn't chase after his goldfish collection and his origami paper as payment for damages and costs. As I say, bigger fish to fry in the sea as always. Small fish are always more entertaining to write about. I can understand why Stephen would defend his goldfish bowl. Libel cases often put goldfish bowls out of business.

Fiona Godlee BMJ/Neil Bacon in An Ivory Tower

Email from Neil Bacon to Fiona Godlee and the Response

I have just had a grovelling email from James Landon requesting that I disclose the correspondence regarding the link between Fiona Godlee and Neil Bacon in relation to the recent outpourings by NHS - Behind the Headlines. It is far too tempting not to write about this issue so here we go.

The above document is an email between the two. There is a second lengthier one for a rainy day. The above email concerns a article I was asked to write [Cybermedics - A Virtual Reality] in BMJ Careers. In it, I reviewed a Doctors Only website while interviewing a number of people who use the website. I declared my conflict but was bound by a court order regarding the finer detail. The BMJ itself failed to publish this conflict despite a signed declaration. A number of doctors had great fun abusing me on the Rapid Responses section. This unjustified criticism was not moderated by the BMJ at all. It also resulted in their initial negligence and failure to print my conflict. It commenced with Neil Bacon, who was having problem dealing with justified criticism of his website Doctors.net.uk. In return, he attempted to discredit the piece. That was his motivation for writing to Fiona Godlee who was happy to believe Neil's tales.

The accusations were that I did not disclose the conflict. I was not allowed to respond to the Rapid Responses and the damage. That is similar to our friend Neil Bacon's policy on preventing responses on iwantgreatcare. The BMJ had banned any response from me. One of the idiots on the responses section was the oddball - Dr Jonathan Whiteside, a conceited doctor based in Scotland who continued his tirade. As head henchman and honcho for Dr Bacon, he ran in and did his knightly thing until his armour fell off when I pointed out that at no time did his letter published in the BMJ carry his conflict of interest. He was a DNUK supportive reviewer and member. He is probably a bit like John Nottingham but with hair. But then we can't expect much of those who deal with patients who are either asleep or dead.

We should note one issue regarding this silly farce. The date during these exchanges was 28th November 2005. My father was dying during that time. The defamatory messages from the doctors occurred during this period. The accusation of non declaration was serious as it may have been a GMC matter. As usual, while these doctors complain of potential defamation on the internet on iwantgreatcare, they were quite happy to continue their frenzied attack on me. Any defence to these people is termed "derranged". One thing everyone can be sure of - when I am attacked in any way, I defend, and I defend to win. A girls gorra do what a girls gorra do. It is quite simple.

My father died on the 11th December 2005. During this period, I was forced into this pathetic example of human behaviour because of the BMJ's own incompetence [ see email below]. I observed the pattern of behavior from these doctors who clearly had a hangup. I know some of them read this website so I hope they are happy with what they did. I wasn't fond of dealing with correspondence of this nature during my father's funeral but there we have it - short sighted creatures often act without due thought.

I have never liked Fiona Godlee. That is no secret. Fiona Godlee went to University College London, broke up with Bertie and went onto develop into someone that no one particularly likes these days. She is also a grey haired Oxfordshire upper class boring feminist. Heaven only knows why she doesn't use Loreal hair dye - perhaps thats because she's not worth it. Because her persona is so boring, her journal is even more boring. That is why only boring people read it or post on it. While I am banned from the BMJ, one time criminal Penny Mellor [ harasser to David Southall] is allowed to happily post on their Rapid Responses section. Feminists allow feminists. Godlee is no doubt happy with ex felons hob nobbing with them while it is clear that intemperate whistleblowers are not allowed. Then again, Doctors.net.uk knows about Penny Mellor rummaging within their systems. That is common knowledge. Mind you Fiona is very happy for liars like Professor Griffiths to use the BMJ as a means to publicise his faulty ideas.

That is what the BMJ terms equality. I am no feminist. I think men have a rough deal in these years of feminism. Personally, I get sick of women issues being plastered over the BMJ all the time. That's why real men don't work with Fiona Godlee. A real man would not be able to stand her. I have always felt that Kamran Abassi was robbed of the BMJ Editor post but that's not just my view. Godlee is the golden girl much like Neil Bacon is Golden Balls but her sheer stupidity can be seen in her email above. They are also of the view that because of their background, upbringing and connections, they have the right to look down on others. They do look down on others as inferior beings. That is of course their problem - because while they have a fake facade. It is the fake facade of the medical establishment who think they are the most important people of then all. In actual fact, no one in the real world even gives a damn about them.

She addresses Neil on first name terms and tells him.

Amazing professionalism for an editor when she tells Neil :-

"Perhaps the main mistake was using her in the first place but these things happen".

In an email to me she said
"I have met Neil Bacon on two occasions, both of which were at his request to discuss possible collaborations"

She later accuses me of not giving her the full story - when she was made aware there was a court order but clearly, Fiona's one neurone failed to process that idea that court orders could not be breached. Please note that she allowed Neil Bacon to submit but banned any responses from me. This shows the favouritism slant towards Neil. This must be monitored acutely because any positive feature of iwantgreatcare.org by the BMJ should be assessed by examining the conflict and her prior dealings with Neil. It may explain the reason the BMJ have ignored the serious issues regarding iwantgreatcare.org and the strength of feeling from doctors. If Richard had been running the BMJ, he would have pinned iwantgreatcare.org right against the wall.

In Neil's email, he refers to Fiona on first name terms and says " Monday Morning - Might we speak RE Conflict of interest in the BMJ article published this weekend". Nice discussion on the phone so none of us can prove that the extreme matters of the court were discussed. We can imagine what that phonecall consists of. The BMJ has never accepted material from me since then. Thankyou Neil - you vindictive idiot. Then he did sell all the doctors down the swanee river. These were doctors that were faithful to him for years, made him lots of money and gave him the status he now relies on. He has hung these doctors out to dry on iwantgreatcare.org. I think thats the worst in human behaviour and the ultimate in betrayal. But then, I know Neil well. Well enough to know that he has no scrupples.

As for Fiona Godlee, some women are capable and intelligent. Others simply ride on reputation and upbringing. She was last seen commenting on Channel 4 on Raj Persaud. She may have a posh accent and have been to the right schools but she has a serious problem with reality. It is her job as editor to check for plagiarism :) and you would have thought she could do her job. That is why her journal has gone to the dogs. The journal may be applicable to old duffers but not to the younger generation who are on fire.

Gone are the days of Richard Smith when the BMJ was about free speech and everyone was accepted. These days, only upperclass conformists are allowed to write/post and discuss. As Richard Smith put it sometime ago, gone are the days when the BMJ/typical journals ruled the waves. They rule no more and they never will again. Those who run it are out of touch. It is simply that they bask in the glory of bygone days.

Of course, they would never feature me as a whistleblower - not someone they look down on :). That's fine because some of us are in the gutter looking at the stars and those at the BMJ are in the gutter looking at the drains. It is just a matter of perspective. Perhaps the main mistake the BMA made was using Fiona Godlee in the first place but these things happen. Silly girls simply aren't capable of understanding grass root issues affecting average doctors. Fiona Godlee lives in an Ivory Tower. She simply has no insight into her failings much like her friend Neil Bacon because in the end they are vacant people who lack insight into the rest of the world. Witchdoctor asks "Is Neil Bacon’s recklessness and vulnerability being used?". My answer is - no, it's his stupidity :).

The above though is an example of how whistleblowers with a reputation are perceived. I simply don't tolerate bad behaviour. It is a zero tolerance policy. The above is a robust defence to defamation. Under Gatley on Libel, I am allowed a right to reply.

Dear Rita

I have now found your declared competing interest form, and have posted a rapid response to your article, and a similar text for next week's issue. I'm sorry we ommittedfont> to print it. Here is the text we are using:

Unfortunately an administrative error meant that we failed to publish the author’s declared competing interests with this review (BMJ</font> Career Focus 2005;331:234). We are sorry for this ommissionnt> and happy to set the record straight. The competing interests that Rita Pal declared to us were:

The author was involved in litigation in 2004 with Doctors Net UK. Settled amicably and completed many months ago.

The author has subsequently told me that she invited comments from doctors.net.uk for inclusion in the article; they declined the offer.

Hope this is OK. I will also chase up the correction to the of the Bolsin article

Yours Sincerely
