THE DOMINO EFFECT - FAST EFFECTIVE GAGGING OF OUTSPOKEN DOCTORS

If One Is Down The Rest Will Fall

The public of course have no idea how oppressive the medical profession really is. As a surviving whistleblower, I should know how oppressive the system becomes for those who are outspoken critics of the system. For whistleblowers, it is well known that careers are destroyed if a doctor is outspoken about system failures. The Bristol Inquiry and the Shipman Inquiry raise this point. quite clearly. We all knew about the code of silence until a few of us attempted to challenge the status quo in the year 2000. Our voices were largely kept silent by the BMJ and the mainstream media. Fearing the effect on the rest of the profession, people like me were largely marginalised and taken out of the normal sphere of mainstream medical politics.

The way the medical professions elite works is through control. Effective control is essential for leaders to remain unaccountable. Whistleblowing is one example of stepping out of line. The message here is that if you step out of line, your job goes, your career goes and you probably have to move to Australia. I don't like this message being sent out to the UK doctors so I stayed on in the UK. So whistleblowing is simply one example of gagging by the medical profession. No doctor effectively whistleblows because he or she knows the repercussions.

The problem with the evolution of the medical profession was the creation of a group of doctors who refused to remain silent. These doctors had had enough. These were the brave juniors who fought the system that had failed them. I believe for those of us who have been around for a while, it was a historic revolution. It was something that had never happened before during the history of medicine in the UK. Following this rebellion against the MMC disaster, Remedy UK burst onto the scene - a young, intelligent group with new ideas about how things should be done. Moreover, they were radical, rebellious and challenged the status quo. This was a revolution in medical politics. I doubt that Remedy UK actually realise or understand the impact it has had on the profession as a whole. It has shaken and stirred the elite and seniors in the profession. So many doctors have spoken out against the MMC that the medical establishment has failed to effectively control the situation. The deans, the eldest in the GMC and those who have ruled for years have found that their authority has been undermined. Doctors in general are people who are seen and not heard. They have adapted. Their voices are now heard through the internet - loud and clear.

Dr Scot Jnr was part of this revolution. Dr Scot Jnr posts on a doctors only web site were severely critical of the MMC. Dr Scot Jnr represents this new breed of doctor. He is a doctor who stands up to criticise and to fight against an unfair system. The current situation with his suspension isn't just about him swearing. It is simply this, Dr Scot Jnr is a threat to the current established medical institution. Professor Paice has probably been monitoring him and many others for a while. That is what she does. It has been known for a number of years that the top ranking doctors in the medical's elite prowl web forums and " take out" the more radical thinkers. Rumour has it that some have ended up in the health committee of the GMC. That of course is a classical " fit up" the medical establishment practises.

Paice has been waiting and watching much like a large fat crocodile on the bank - waiting to pounce. I know this because it is always the way of the medical elite. It has been their way with me, it has been their way with many whistleblowers and outspoken critics of the system. Paice waited until she knew she could get Scot Jnr. By doing so, her plan was to effectively silence the rest of the MMC critics. That is the way she and the others in the medical establishment wanted to silence those doctors who are outspoken. Paice is a clever lady, she knows about psychological warfare and effective control of the profession. She knows that if she hangs one doctor as an example [ much like a whistleblower], no one else will have the temerity to criticise. Indeed, Dr Rant described this effect some weeks ago.

Of course, Prof Paice's plan has gone horribly wrong. The matter has backfired and her plan of quietly setting an example that would act much like a domino silencing effect has gone completely wrong. Dinner parties in London probably outline the fact that this is "just a local affair" and Paice has no doubt underplayed it. Of course, those of us who know the medical elite well, knows what makes them tick, we also know the way their tiny minds work. They cannot though control the internet. They understand that now . They will understand that the internet will cause the downfall of the medical elite sooner rather than later.

The old school's knowledge of the internet is limited. They fail to understand the impact and the fact that Dr Scot Jnr is protected by hundreds of his colleagues. Essentially, either Dr Scot Jnr is reinstated or this problem with spiralling publicity worsens. We also don't have to rely on the media. Paice understands that there is no way to beat the army of medical bloggers. We work fast, we work effectively and we don't fear anyone. It is a logical progression in revolution.

This is a new war - it is the war of the modern world - fought and won on the internet. Free speech will be protected in the medical profession and Dr Scot Jnr will never be Paice's sacrificial lamb. With Dr Scot Jnr comes the rest of the young generation of doctors - uncontrolled, fearless and able to fight against this oppressive behaviour.
