""Although paragraph 35 of Good Medical Practice prohibits doctors from making malicious or unfounded criticisms of colleagues, this is ONLY in relation to clinical matters"
Jackie Smith GMC Fitness to Practise.
The important thing about recovery from pneumonia is that I get bored. Boredom always engages me into reading and writing. So, this is what I found in my files while clearing the place out of shit. By "shit" I mean the endless rubbish from the General Medical Council. There was one interesting letter that will not be defeated by Dame Carol Black. Essentially, the letter states what I have always told everyone. I discussed this previously, on our Hemlockgate soap opera. For all those who missed it, Professor Paice of London Deanery crowed about the GMC guidance to protect her position.
She told the world at large.
"Yesterday, Professor Paice defended the move. "Many of the things doctors say on internet forums express their disagreement with or anger about issues," she said. "It is right that they are able to do so".
"However, there is a point at which the personal abuse of individuals reaches such viciousness that it is unprofessional."
"She pointed out that guidelines drawn up by the General Medical Council (GMC) included a section on treating colleagues with respect"Now let us see what the General Medical Council told me in 2002. Yes, it essentially states that GMP only works in a clinical setting. A doctors-only web site is not a clinical setting and therefore Dr Scot Jnr is not covered by GMP.
So, Professor Paice, lets see your defence! We can all play hardball, and we can even play hardball with your defence union - the Medical Protection Society. At this point, defence unions and Paice will normally slime out of this position and move to another GMP rule.
This is the letter I found :-
This guidance was repeated in a second letter dated 2nd October 2002. Ref WK/JL. It stated
" Please note the contents of the paragraph 35 of the booklet. In view of the fact, however that the comments allegedly made by Dr Bacon were not made in a clinical setting, I do not believe that this is a matter in which the GMC should become involved".
This is the email I sent to Jackie Smith of the General Medical Council
Please confirm that you are in receipt of all documentation from me. If there are any remaining questions, I will be happy to answer them.
