When I was a teenager, I had read all of Dickens' novels by the time I was 12. I then continued to read - To Kill a Mocking Bird. The Gregory Peck film is probably the closest adaptation anyone will get to the excellent book. The point about many of Dickens characters as well as the characters developed by Harper Lee were tales of social injustice and the effect of assuming people's guilt even before they have been tried. The stigma of an assumption of "guilt" is an interesting thing. These themes were further developed in the play - An Inspector Calls.
I speak of these books because I often think about how fate works on people who were initially in judgment and part of that crowd who assume "guilt" . Many people mocked the fact that I had been in trouble with the General Medical Council in 2004. The biggest assumption of course is that 99 percent of doctors assume that their colleagues who face the GMC should be stigmatised. There is also an assumption that where there is smoke, there must be fire. Raj Persaud of course was no different. 2004 was a good year for him. He was famous, he was rich and he had the ability to look down on others from a great height. I was simply a doctor trying to defend myself and protect my job.
During 2004, I was in the middle of a human rights case with the General Medical Council. I had sued the GMC for their covert investigation on the basis of a typographical error and one letter criticising the GMC's substandard conduct. The GMC had found to be leaking this information to all and sundry. The GMC had questioned my mental health. That is what happens when you say the same things as Dame Janet Smith but in less of an "English Haberdasher tone". They later apologised for the distressed caused or at least Blake Dobson apologised.
I had gone to Persaud to request that he helped me with this serious problem. I was concerned about the Totalitarian element of this. Persaud and I ended up having an argument on the phone. His mocking bird of a secretary had her nose raised even further to the morning air. He mocked me for being in trouble with the General Medical Council. Actually, he didn't care about my predicament. In turn, I dropped the phone down on him, end up in court 2 weeks later and beat the shit out of the General Medical Council. Part of my hard work towards the GMC case in those two weeks was due to the anger I had towards Raj Persaud. In my comparator list, I had used 9 doctors who had a mental illness and were not subject to a covert inquiry. One of those doctors was Dr Mike Shooter ex President of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and friend to Persaud. The GMC had no defence to this.
I hated Persaud's condescending, negative attitude towards me. The sort of attitude that is intended to make you feel like a speck of dust.
These days, Persaud is a discredited psychiatrist who was suspended off the GMC register for 3 months due to his taste for cutting and pasting. He recently resigned from his prized job at the Maudsley. He has been removed from many media spots. Even though he had no sympathy for me, I felt he was dealt with very harshly by the General Medical Council. A warning would have been enough. Nevertheless, his fall from grace is interesting and a far cry from 2004. What is the most worrying part is that he is now a target for the Scientologists and I would never wish this on my worst enemy. I am the last person who should have a sense of pity or sympathy for him. I have a lot of sympathy for Persaud's predicament. I didn't rate his material in the media but that was because I used to be a practical shrink and he was a theoretical one. I tried to make a difference to my patients and he just talked about it.
Persaud and Fiona Godlee were both in the same year at University College London. Even she never publicly stood by him showing us all that "friends" really are around only when you are rich, successful and riding on air.
No one is around when you sink. Persaud found this out the hard way. It never pays to be a mocking bird.

The penalty must fit the crime or else justice falls into disrepute
GMC is finding it hard to frame new victims nowadays because its kangaroo court hearings and procedures are the subject of an increasing scrutiny by ethnic minority doctors---the GMC's usual suspects and public enemies.
This is not least because none of the GMC members are qualified to do so.
Therefore the GMC now is trying to stitch up doctors who have some kind of GMC history such as investigations or warnings on their record.
To do this the GMC simply "recycles" the old and fraudulent evidence on a doctor and thereby makes it look as if it is considering a "new" case of misconduct.
I understand this happened in the case of Dr Persaud too.
Dr Persaud had been attacked by the GMC and his Trust years ago. When the investigation against him collapsed, Dr Persaud tried but failed in bringing libel proceedings.
This gave a new excuse to his enemies in the GMC to act against him and they got back at him by bloating his "plagiarism" if there was any and disproportionately sentencing him.
Those courageous doctors who fight the GMC must be prepared to destroy all signs of life in the GMC too.
If you know of Persaud's whereabouts - tell him as follows
1. Tell him that publicity is his only weapon against those who have tried to attack him
2. Tell him this is not the time to get depressed.
3. Tell him that he has enough contacts in the media to blow the Scientologists out of the water - he needs to do so before more doctors are attacked in this way.
4. Also tell him to take care of himself.

Rita I am only hoping he reads this. He should have gone to the High Court immediately to have his suspension revoked but I am not sure what his plans are.
I just read about his history. He had been harassed by his employers for a long time only because he had been fingered by the GMC.
He kept assailing his employing Trust whilst ignoring his real enemies in the GMC.
When the GMC got the chance they went after him with a detective agency which could not unearth any new evidence. The GMC therefore simply misrepresented the old evidence and fraudulently made it look as if they had discovered something new. That is how disgusting the GMC are....
Yes, we all know how disgusting the GMC are.
They use a number of detective agencies. Peter Jay used to work with Field Fisher waterhouse. They did the same with Tonmoy Sharma who was struck off sometime ago. He used Jay - in Sharma v Jay for harassment but failed. The detective agency had infiltrated his workplace etc etc.
Persaud was sent all the info by me to defend himself - but he opted not to appeal. This was the worst decision really. Currently, I cannot contact him as I have no idea where he is. In any case, he probably won't listen to me.
We plan to write a piece on NHS Exposed and place his transcripts up. I had advised him of this in the past. Scientology attacks are very difficult to defend. I am sure they would have preferred that I went down the GMC steps but I am not one to sit around debating. I have a simple rule - if I am attacked, I attack back 10 times worse. Its a simple rule of thumb.
Dr Anthony William Baker was a child psychiatrist on the GMC lists. I suspect he has been suspended as we speak. I also suspect the Scientologists or Penny Mellor had some involvement in this.

Some would say the GMC isn't the enemy - the Scientologists are. The above was evidenced by emails.
Child Protection Specialists and Psychiatrists will be going down the GMC steps one by one.
Bhugra opts not to listen to these issues or turn a blind eye. The problem is fairly bad at present and I suspect there is no controlling the situation as it may well be too late.
