Old Goats of Onmedica

I ought to say nice things about Onmedica but I won't. I did that, got the teeshirt and got my pen burnt. Onmedia and I used to get on, until they found out who I was. That is often the case. The tale started when I wished to write a review about them. At that point they were quite supportive. The piece was Cybermedics - A Virtual Reality. Following this article, Bacon and his snivelling idiots plotted to discredit it. Following mention of the "republication rule", the BMJ fretted and took the entire thread down a few months ago. The entire issue was the BMJ's fault but Onmedica doesn't give a flying F about this.

Through the entire fiasco, Onmedica did not support me. You would think they would have but they just didn't want to write in support of me at any point. What shall we say about this? I should call them all chickens but I won't. I should say that Dr Luke Koupparis doesn't have the balls to back up those who took a chance to back his website, but I won't say that. Oh, they were so very friendly when I was due to write their review. It was almost as if they had given me a brotherly hug.

This was their smug email to me :) - after the controversy. I allowed them to edit it but saved this email for a rainy day and it happens to be raining today.

Subject: OnMedica.net posting

"Dear Rita,

Thank you for posting the review of onmedica.net that was published in BMJ Career Focus 2005;331: 234. We are delighted that you find onmedica.net so useful and thank you for your comments. However, I have been asked to slightly edit your post in order to focus on the article itself rather than any issues that may have occurred between the BMJ, xxxxx and yourself as this probably wouldn't be information of which the majority of our users would be aware. I think this will be in both our best interests.

I hope that’s OK.

All the best,

Anita Crafts-Lighty

I shouldn't really air dirty linen out in public but I felt I should balance the original glowing review with something a bit down to earth and realistic. Onmedia refused to allow clarification of the issues that engulfed me at the time.

Here is Kamran Abassi , the man who thinks he is cool because he is an editor but we all know he just likes to mix with the movers and shakers. He has a sneery approach to people - probably inherited from his days with Richard Smith [ the blogger on the BMJ that no one reads].

His pick of bloggers are your usual " whingers" which is fine if you like that sort of thing. Clearly, Onmedica are now into cloning and do not like your usual Bassets All sorts. I of course want to know why they don't invite Dr Rant, Jobbing Doctor or Witchdoctor. I can understand why they don't invite me to blog there - controversy, they don't understand breeds dislike [and who wants a whistleblower and a blunt one at that]. Of course, there would have been no doubt that Luke would have opened his arms out [pre - controversy surrounding Cybermedics - A Virtual Reality]. That is of course what people are like - will do anything for a favourable review then when you have been used and have outlasted your sell by date, you can be scattered out with the rest of the rubbish. This is of course the overall domino effect of Neil Bacon and his band of merry eunuchs. Sure, I fought this issue on my own - yes, sure I even won it - but at what cost. Stephen O Hanlon [ Fishgoth] should think about that in detail. He is so shy about this issue he won't even respond to them by email. Let bygones be bygones I suspect eh. Well, perhaps the bygones should remain here so many can read the kinds of people who never ever give anyone the benefit of the doubt. Is anyone going to say " We are sorry". No, of course not - that is because none are man enough to do that. Stephen left his balls in the surgical locker long ago.

Sure, I can spill out some sour grapes as I am completely and utterly used to it. Kamran is of the view that the material we produce on NHS Exposed, isn't real journalism but his is. Shame more people read us than read him. Then we aren't two faced or arrogant nor do we engage in cloning. Of course, cloning isn't the grass roots of the profession these days.Variety is.

Kamran is stuck in the thought processes created by Richard Smith - both are out of date.

I am not in the mood to play cyber politics but I completely regret writing an excellent review about Onmedica. As a website, it was worth it, as people they were never worth it. Onmedica since has cut contact with me [politely] - understandably so because that is what they are like - spineless and gutless. Do I wish them well? Of course, I don't. We shall write negatively about Onmedica from now on [ and we list well on Google UK]. That is probably because I don't like conceited old goats who wallow in their own arrogance. Just to remind Onmedica that I can write rave reviews or I can write extremely bad reviews. It all depends on the quality of personality. I fully plan to reverse the work done on Cybermedics - A Virtual Reality. Let that be a legacy of their bad and utterly selfish behaviour.
