Fiona Godlee Requires Loreal. Is She Worth It?

Is the BMJ Editor Worth It?

Everyone knows I have never liked Fiona Godlee. She is of course editor of the BMJ. The problem is that she has done more harm to the BMJ than her predecessor Richard Smith. At least with Richard Smith there was an element of free speech. Fiona Godlee controls her rapid responses to fit in with her agenda.

As I am nicknamed the Bengal Tiger, life wouldn't be complete without an element of gossip. The claws just have to come out at midnight and so they have.

Fiona's brother is Julian Godlee who once famously dumped his girlfriend Ann following his taste for the local blonde. The Godlees do theatre in Oxford by the way. They fancy themselves as "luviees". Indeed, to humiliate Julian's first girlfriend further, the Godlees offered her a part in their Play. She was to act out a "dead body". Ann, the then girlfriend was mortified. Julian used to lounge around as a GP in Oxford somewhere. Here he is posing for the newspapers. The Godlees are highclass people who revolve in high class circles. It is a shame they have such a low class mindset. This is why Fiona looks down on the rest of the universe. Fiona cannot really be blamed for her faulty and somewhat narrow visioned outlook on life. Sitting at BMA House editing her newsletter cannot be that enlightening - especially when she surrounds herself with safe "houses" - people like her, people she knows how to deal with and people who walk around with a clothes pegs stuck on their pointy noses - like journalist Jonathan Gornall. Sure, they all wallow in self righteousness and political correctness. Sadly, this minority group does not make the world go round.

UCL Alumni is a wonderful thing as are love affairs that go sour. Fiona's love life wasn't much better. Having been dumped by Bertie, Fiona went onto Harvard but alas, that didn't do her editing skills much good. It is a shame that she gets to where she is by having the right face to fit the part.

Seriously though these days she ought to use some hair dye. Loreal is important for women of a certain age. Fiona is of that certain age and this dowdy old School marm image is now spilling over onto the BMJ. The problem with Fiona is this - she is of the view that no matter how badly behaved she is, the world will still like her. I don't, probably because I have reason not to like her. Forgiveness for those who are conceited and arrogant is not my strong point. I always believe I should return some of the favours she did for Neil Bacon at my cost. The above is simply a slither of information regarding the Godlees. There is more to gossip about. We must not forget that the Bacons and the Godlees know each other. Perhaps the Godless have the pigs over for tea. Dear, dear, aren't I foul, uncouth and uncultured! :). The difference with me is that while much is said behind closed doors , I tend to just blurt it out on the internet for everyone to view. There is something honest about being transparent.

This sort of gossip has nothing to do with Fiona's ability to edit but it gives you an idea as to why she is of the view she evolves in a higher realm than the rest of us mortals. She is afterall a feminist. I dislike feminists because quite frankly I am tired of reading about " womens issues" all the time. Men exist too, they have rights and they are mostly quite wonderful. We hear nothing about single medical fathers, we hear nothing about separation of families during the MMC fiasco, we hear nothing about the vital issues affecting medicine today. We do though hear about all Fiona's pet subjects - showing us all that this editor is divorced from reality. Put it this way, if Witchdoctor edited the BMJ, she would get far more readers than Fiona Godlee. That is because Witchdoctor is a different breed of lady - one who thinks out of the box. So what exactly is Fiona doing at the BMJ? Actually, everyone has been wondering that for years.

Dr Rant recently blew his top about the faulty representation of Dr Scot Jnr in the BMJ. There are probably many Rapid Responses - most blocked by the dragons at the BMJ who believe that only Penny Mellor posts are allowed on there. You see, you have to have a criminal record to post on the BMJ otherwise they don't allow you on. Dr Rant is quite right about his assessment of the BMJ. I should also point out that Brian Keighley, the GMC mole and all round busy body is also on the BMJ Publications Committee. Brian Keighley will have wanted to support his little pet hamster Prof Elizabeth Paice. This is why the BMJ spun the story to imply that Paice had asked for material by Dr Scot Jnr to be taken down from the Doctors Only website. The fact remains Dr Scot Jnr requested the removal. We note that the BMJ plus their blogs never campaigned for his reinstatement. They just waited and watched. In the days of Richard Smith, the BMJ would have campaigned for free speech. Alas, Richard Smith who has now been demoted to mere blogger for the BMJ, has lost his teeth.

Why am I not surprised by these errors made by the BMJ? Probably because we know that Fifon Godlee is the worst editor the BMJ has ever had. We should play spot the errors - it is one of my favourite games.

1. Misinformed the public regarding Dr Scot Jnr.
2. Published copyright violations in relation to Raj Persaud
"Mr Donne said the British Medical Journal (BMJ) was forced to issue an "unequivocal retraction" in September 2005 after publishing an article by Dr Persaud in which he failed to correctly attribute his work"

3. Fiona Godlee liased with Neil Bacon regarding my own piece and propagated the idea that I never declared the conflict. This was until I showed them the copyright form that I signed and sent them one month ahead of the publication. The BMJ had to grovelling retract all posts they initially presented to the world on the behest of their mate Neil Bacon.

4. Supported iwantgreatcare.org

5. Banned Remedy UK's advert in the BMJ.
