Of course, there is Trouble Ahead :).

Defence Unions.
Helping Deans Cope With the Unexpected.

I have no idea why my minor complaint to the General Medical Council has caused such controversy. There is nothing brave about it. It is simply a necessity. Everyone else may wish to sit around and moan but I don't feel like it. In fact, I feel like challenging the status quo. Witchdoctor calls it serious double trouble. I call it mild jousting with some despots.

Lets face it, either we have 1 SpR as a sitting duck at Gillian Needham's special prison for junior doctors OR we do something about it. For avoidance of doubt, the Scottish SpR had nothing to do with the GMC complaint and neither did his friends. It was all my idea. Yes, even I can think with one neurone occasionally :).

Gillian Needham and Elizabeth Paice may wish to compare notes with the other big shots in the land eg Professor Rod Griffiths who has been subject to GMC procedures for almost four years now. That is because I don't let go and most people know it. In the case of Griffiths I did indeed thrash the Department of Health lawyers to win a Rule 12 application. A Rule 12 application is when the President of the GMC reviews the decision of the case examiners. Whether I win or lose against Needham and Paice is not dependant on justice but more dependant on the close connections they have with the General Medical Council. They may well be on the phone to Gossipy Despot 3 Carol Black moaning away about how rude and unprofessional I am. Of course, I am rude. That doesn't mean I don't have a bona fide complaint :).

In any case, I am all for data retention when it comes to Deans. Complaints recieved by the GMC are stored forever in their files. They invented the process, the Deans can live by it. It is only fair and just in this world of injustice that there is a formal record of bullying and harassment against the two Deans. The GMC complaint is a formal record whether it is thrown out or not. Of course, if it is thrown out at the first stage, we will understand that our friends Carol Black and the two despots have been in touch with Finlay Scott and Catto exerting undue influence. If it goes past the first stage, we will see that the GMC may be trying to be fair. The GMC may wish to avoid a revolt. They know the peasants are already revolting.

It appears clear that they lifted the suspension for 3 days just to appease the Sunday Times then when the media had disappeared, they placed it back. Isn't that the height of wickedness? Of course, it is. Forget the fact that the suspension is now probably illegal. Is anyone paying any attention to that? Lets see what our source say again

"He is still suspended, despite local advice to reinstate, regionally needham has blocked his return. The local disciplinary committee and LNC recommended no action to be taken against him, but the deanery has continued the suspension".

So which part of this suspension is legal Gillian? I would quite like to know. I would quite like to know HOW the Highland Deanery can justify such a suspension. Gillian feels she doesn't owe anyone an explanation. Of course, she does owe all of us some explanation.

By the way, if any kind soul can forward me the anti bullying and harassment policy for the Highland Deanery as well as the formal complaints procedure for said deanery, that would be excellent and I would be grateful for it.

It must be a great shame that some people cannot be controlled by fear. Why am I interested in our Scottish SpR? Because it goes to the heart of fundamental human rights that are denied to doctors everyday.

By the way, anyone is free to anonymously write to the GMC now in support of said complaint against our two Deans :). Use a Gmail account and email jsmith@gmc-uk.org. It is irrelevant whether the complaint is made by me, the GMC have the powers under the Medical Act 1983 to take up said complaint on their own in the public interest. "Public interest" is probably defined by the number of supporters the complaint gets.
